Windows 8.1 permissions issue

The permissions on my friend’s laptop seem to have been broken when I opened the hard drive on a second computer to do a scan. I opened the hard drive on my windows 7 machine and when I put the hard drive back into the laptop and booted it I do not have the correct permissions and any apps in the windows 8 UI do not show up and programs give me errors saying they do not have permission to access files.

I have tried a few things. I gave myself the permissions for my user folder but that did not help, I also booted into safe mode. When booted into safe mode everything works fine, but once I boot out of safe mode everything is broken again.

I am not able to reinstall windows on this machine and there was not a restore point made.

By using the hard drive on a different system it then took all permissions from that system. What you need to do is reset the hard drive back
