My brother’s laptop has recently started giving an error that the computer has encountered an error and has to restart, which shows up after opening the laptop’s lid from being closed without shutdown (something I commonly do on my Windows 7 laptop). I really don’t have much info beyond that, my searches for info specific to this make of laptop have been fruitless.
Operating System: Windows 8 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200) (9200.win8_gdr.121119-1606)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
System Model: N56DP

Processor: AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Any ideas? Again, I only know the little general information of when it happens, not much else. I may try experimenting with downloading updates and drivers (perhaps even checking with some malware and rootkit scanners) when I get the chance, later on.
Thanks for the suggestion. I try that once I have access to the laptop this evening.
One thing he mentioned to me was that he’s been leaving a second monitor hooked up to the laptop when he closes it up. I’m not sure if it’s the absolute cause, but it could be likely, judging from what information I’ve gathered from searching around. I’ve asked him to disconnect it before booting down the laptop next time, but I can’t be sure if he’ll remember/care.
Booted up normally this time. So it was most likely that monitor causing the problem. Unfortunately the taskbar stopped auto-hiding, which is typically caused by some unknown background program crashing from what I’ve gathered, it’s happened on my 7 before.
