windows 8 & avast! Internet Security suite blocks internet access

Hi,
Earlier i had win8 developers preview running with avast free edition and since it worked fine and i liked the program
I thought buying the “avast! Internet Security suite” version when i formatted my hdd and installed consumer preview.

however now Avast blocks my 3G connection (huawei E367 connected whit windows build-in wwan function)
and when that occurs it either can’t connect at all… or it shows that it gets connection but gives “dns not found” when trying to get on the webpages…
Nothing seems to help (not even temporarily disabling the firewall) untill i remove the avast and reboot, then it works fine again.

as you can see it works fine after i removed the avast and rebooted.

Avast and win8 where fresh and clean installs so no earlier firewalls/antivirus programs that could affect on this.
i just couldn’t find the problem.
all advices and tips are appreciated, thanks.

EDIT: changed the right avast product name…

what firewall ?

ah, my bad :-[
i was suppose to talk about “avast! Internet Security” but i mixed those two in a hurry.
thanks for pointing that out, i better fix the opening post and headline. ::slight_smile: :-[

OK, so any ideas what to try to get this working?

the avast’s firewall recognizes the internet connection at start and pops out that “home, work or public” setting dialogue…
i choose home… all looks good… but the internet connection just wont work…

i tried to shutdown different parts of the avast programs from the menu → then reboot and try to connect again to find out which part of this software is behind my connection problems.

Finally i shutdown the whole avast from the avast menu and rebooted the machine… now it did not give me “Error 720” when connecting and it looked like it connected succesfully (status was:connected)
but now with browsers it gave “dns errors” and I didn’t have real working connection.

After removing once again the whole “internet security suite” and rebooting… it worked…

And since i’m not a native english speaker i might write a bit confusing explanations so just ask what the hell i was trying to say if something makes no sense.

have you disabled the windows 8 firewall?

does avast popup with any messages saying what it has blocked?

could you make an exception for your 3G connection in the file system sheild?

and you could also try setting your network to public, see if that changes anything.

have you disabled the windows 8 firewall?
YES
does avast popup with any messages saying what it has blocked?
NO

Could you make an exception for your 3G connection in the file system sheild?
haven’t tried this yet but I will test this one.

and you could also try setting your network to public, see if that changes anything.
Tested this, no change

Thanks for helping

Hi i’m Having this issue as well.

Has anyone been able to solve it?

nah, i never found out what’s the reason.
Closing the program down didn’t help either, only way to get the connection working again was to uninstall the software and restart.
it couldn’t even update it’s self. all it did was → after installation that “new connection found” pop-up appeared then i clicked the “home zone” and that’s all it ever sayed…

@ insomnia,

Is the program working correctly now after uninstalling and reinstalling?

Nope, i never managed to make it work.

Only way to “normalize” the pc again was to completely remove the product and NOT install it again.

from curiosity i just tried again since time has passed and updates come.

Still today, same issue except that now i’m using windows 8 release preview.

fresh install, and right after it’s finished all connections lost. taking the software “off” for a while does not help.
The modem shows that the connection has been made and is active but that’s it.

Before we start, please disable Windows Defender on W8.

  1. Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/test5beta/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Ok, Then?

Well, does it work now…??

No it doesn’t.
same thing as earlier, i’m typing via my phone now since i didn’t uninstall it yet.
and since disabling avast doesn’t help either.

  1. Did you follow the instructions…??
  2. Which version did show up…?? (We had an update some minutes ago.)

The versio number is 7.0.1447
And yes i did follow the instructions.

edit: since the whole avast is now turned off, if this would be only firewall conf, etc. problem you would think it should work now, but no.
Only total uninstallation seems to work so i have no idea what’s causing this.

Sorry, out of ideas then.
Please open a support ticket: http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit
Good luck…!!

I have just tested that with Huawei K3765. Not successfull with connecting via Win8 Dialup though (with or without avast), but via the associated connect application from 3G provider all worked without a problem.

Could you post a screenshot of your “Network Connections” page? What type of connections do you have there and also please post the Properties/Networking dialog for the 3g related connection/adapter.

Thanks.
Lukas.

I also have the same problem. When I install Avast Internet Security (7.0.1474) on Windows 8 I do have acces to internet but I can’t connect any web page. Without Avast Internet Security I have no problems with internet connection. Any solution?? I bought the Avast Licence some months and I had no problems before with Windows 7 / XP. Thanks for any answer and help.

I had very similar problems ( See thread “Window 8 Network Issues - dont bother using Support”)

I have had the usual uninstall, re-install, new licence advice and then nothing more from Avast (Guess this just buys them a bit of time)

My system loses general web connectivity after about 2hrs and Avast goes into a strange mode where it doesn’t recognise my licence. Two solutions then clear the problem 1. reboot (buys me another 2 hrs) 2. Turn off Avast totally

Very unhappy they have released such a badly tested product on Windows 8. Their only saving grace appears to be that my problems occured after a large Windows update last week.
