I’m experiencing a strange behaviour with AIS firewall enabled on Windows 8 64 bit edition. I can see an evident lag during site loading (sudden stops while resolving http resources composing a web pages with Firefox telling “Searching for …”). To fix this issue I have to temporary disable the firewall module to gain full speed and no lag at all. Enabling it again makes the issue come back in a few seconds. I’m using Firefox 17.0.1
More details about my config:
Windows firewall disabled
WAN accces from Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit LAN port using driver 12.10.10.3
No other security tools installed
I’ve noticed that during the Win8 welcome screen, the terminal icon is always marked with a yellow triangle, stating that only local connection is available. Logging to the system I can verify that full connection is available for Moder UI apps as well for Desktop apps.
Disablng web shield does not help
Let me know if you need some logs to investigate this issue. I suspect it could be related to the new Agnitum low level driver used by Avast. Please note that my version is unpatched since I’m not having BSODS on Win 8 from day one with Avast
One more info: this sort of lag-delay causes random timeout (a very few times at least) for some connections (for example some sites won’t load correctly…missing images and so on). I exlclude MTU problems or connection issues just for the fact that on Win 7 on a notebook with AIS and same internet connection everything it’s fine (as well as on several android devices).
Btw I fixed this issue just uninstalling Avast and installing it again. Lag it’s gone. I suspect that the bug could be related to the several NDIS entries that come back just after the uninstall under the network adapter voice. I uninstalled all of the manually before installing Avast again.
No more lag and reactive connection again with firewall enabled.
Again yesterday connection become lagging again. First boot today and my internet connection was totally blocked. Yellow triangle and only ethener access to the router. I disabled avast firewall, reboot the pc and now I’m online. I enabled the Avast firewall again and the connection is as a fast as it was on a fresh install
