Under my security center in windows 7, it says that having two firewalls on at the same time can cause conflicts. Is this true? I only have avast and my windows 7 firewall on (avast is the only antivirus prog i have). I turned my windows firewall off and left avast on. Does anyone know if this will lower my protection level or make me more vulnerable to attacks?
If you have the Avast Internet Security version, that firewall was designed to be compatible with the windows firewall on.
It is best to leave the firewall on.
What about modem (A-Link RR24api+) firewall? What would you recommend (turn on or off?)? I have internet security trial version too.
That shouldn’t be an issue either I believe and I bet that windows doesn’t even know it is there ?
If it is a hardware firewall as such in most cases that is inbound protection anyway.
I will leave it to default settings then. Thanks for the info.
I think Logos did some investigating in this and found out that on XP you could have winfirewall on but not necesarry on Vista/win7
I would unless you experience any issues. At the moment the only area that the win7 firewall would cover is IPv6 and that protocol is yet to make a real appearance, so if disabled it wouldn’t make a huge difference.
