My computer suddenly shuts down with the message that the fault is aswMon2.sys
The error windows says page_fault_in_nonpaged_area Dump of physical memory. I have windows XP Home and my husband has Windows XP Professional and it is happening on both computers. Does anyone know the reason for this?
I’m quite sure that if you search the board for aswMon2.sys you’ll find a lot of info.
Do you use ZoneAlarm as firewall?
Do you have any other antivirus in your computer?
Thank you for your help. I have searched aswMon2 but none of the links gave an answer to the problem so unfortunately I will have to uninstall Avast.
If you have ZoneAlarm, it’s almost certainly caused by its driver vsdatant.sys (unless you’re using the latest version). Updating to the latest version of ZA should solve the problem.
Thank you for your reply. I am using the latest Version of Zone Alarm. I found it odd that it was happening on two completely different machines and started happening at the same time. I have had to uninstall Avast, which is a pity because I liked it however I no longer get the problem with Anti virus I have replaced it with, so it looks like goodbye to Avast.
If you send me a couple of (most recent) files from the \windows\minidump I can still have a look what’s caused the blue screens (or reboots).
It might actually be some kind of kernel-mode malware (a rootkit or something).
All I can say (and other people here will probably agree) is that avast per se does not cause anything like this.
Thanks
