Windows Defender Blocks Avast Pro

I have a red ball attached to the blue ball of the Avast Professional software. Windows Defender will not permit me to have any programs running online to constantly be scanned. I can scan the computer for viruses, I can change skins, I have 8 processor(s) with the On-Access Scanner, but nothing running. How do I get rid of this red ball on the Avast icon? I’ve had multiple Avast products over the years on all my Vistacomputers, but this is the first time I am running into this problem.

I am typing from a laptop that has the Avast Professional (in trial mode) and there is no problem, no red ball, and it states “7 running”, any solutions for my desktop that has Windows Vista Sp1?

Thanks, Edward

We will need more information to be able to help you:

  • Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
  • Do you use a firewall? Which one?
  • Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system? Did you have in the past?
  • Any other security programs that could interfere?

The red ‘cross’ into avast icon means avast is disabled…

About the XP computer, Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:

Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items.
Outlook 2002 > Help > About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled items.
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.

As reported a lot of times, the message “The provider is waiting on the subsystem to start” will be shown there until you open MS Outlook.
The plugin will be enabled automatically after that.
Do you use MS Outlook (not the Express)?
