As I said windows is meant to disable Windows Defender (WD) when another AV is installed, not the AV being installed.
Unfortunately (or fortunately), I don’t use win8.1 nor Windows Defender. On my other system Win7, WD isn’t a full blown AV, but an anti-spyware and I manually disabled it in win7 and it has never tried to update its definitions.
I would have loved to completely uninstall WD, but like win8.1 and later it is a part of windows and you can’t uninstall it.
