Windows Defender enabled itself

I disabled windows defender some time back prior to installing Avast and was lead to believe that even if I didn’t disable it, it would disable itself with Avast running. However I checked windows defender today only to find that it is now running alongside Avast.

I also checked my wife’s PC (which is also running a fully patched windows 8.1) and the same this has occurred.
So my question is, why has it re-enabled itself and should I now re-disable it or take some other action?

It may have re-enabled itself when Avast has updated or if Avast had been disabled but in any case you should disable Defender once again.

Forcing a definition update on avast re-disabled it :slight_smile:
