Windows Defender

I was thinking of installing Windows Defender onto my PC, but I have a few questions. How is the real-time protection, is it even worth installing in the first place, and are there any other free anti-spyware programs out there that may be better than Windows Defender, (besides Spyware Terminator, too many problems with it).

Well, it’s better than nothing.
I think Spyware Terminator is better. But as you had problems…
I think there isn’t other antispyware (resident) for free, so Defender will be better than nothing.
If you surf safely, maybe you can even disable it and run, from time to time, better (and much better) AVGas, a-squared, Syware Doctor (Starter Edition), Spyware Terminator, etc. only on-demand.

I’ve been problem free with SpywareTerminator, did you try at their forum?
You might want to also consider Comodo Boclean anti trojan for a bit of extra protection.

All I have for spy-ware protection is Ad-Aware 2007. I use the free version and it catches a lot of stuff. Problem is it doesn’t have real time protection unless you pay for it. My computer was royally messed up after windows defender. I had to go into System restore to fix it. AVG Anti-Spyware Free was decent to. Stay away from spy-bot.

Really? It just take care of some cookies for me… it does not have a good detection rate in my opinion.

ive always had spybot on my pc’s and it has found some stuff other programs have not,never had any problems with it and i will also keep it,superantispyware is very good and for $20 you can purchase a lifetime license for 3 pc’s.

Spybot S&D is as honest as the winter is long, may be a little “dated”, but is still actively supported and updated, and I wouldn’t be without it, either, despite having a few other more “whizzy” applications.
It must be one of the more trusted applications around, it’s been available for ages, has always been free or by donation, and the help files and forum appear to be very helpful.

Unlike AdAware 2007.

Spy-bot has caused me a lot of headaches. after about a month it will quit updating. And it only has a resident shield for IE. Something i will never use again. as for Ad-Aware I’ve had excellent luck with it. No problems and catches a lot of stuff that Spybot and AVG anti-spy didn’t catch. (Along with the stuff they did) And where can i find where the percentage of things caught by avast!. I’d like to compare with other programs. av-comparatives.org doesn’t do much for me.
