Windows File Sharing Not Working after 18.4.2338 (build 18.4.3895.325) update

After updating to 18.4.2338 (build 18.4.3895.325) no other computers can access my Windows shares. When I temporarily disable Avast the shares immediately appear so it is definitely the upgrade that caused the problem. Can anyone tell me how to allow file sharing again? Thanks in advance!

What version of Windows ???

Windows 10

Can anyone tell me how to allow file sharing again?
what avast? free? or one with firewall?

I’m on the paid version of the firewall (Avast Internet Security)

I did look at those two links that you provided before I posted. The first one (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=208246.0) says the solution is “Avast UI>Protection>Firewall>I’m at home”. Any thoughts on what they mean by “I’m at home”? I got to that same page as shown in the screenshot and there is no option that says “I’m at Home” however under “Firewall Profile” it does say Private Network or Public Network and I have Private Network selected. Perhaps that is what “I’m at home” refers to? I also reviewed the second one (https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Antivirus-Firewall-Application-Rules) and this looks like it might be the key but if I look at the “Applications” grouped under Microsoft I don’t know which one relates to File Sharing or if it is not listed, what exe needs to be added. Any thoughts?

At Home means you’re an a secure network. Select Private Network if you are at home.

Thanks for that confirmation. Unfortunately that is how I have it set and still and issue. So, I guess the solution lies in the firewall app configuration but I am still unclear on what application to “allow” in order to make that happen.

To confirm that it is the Firewall in Avast that’s causing the problem, Simply disable the firewall.
Once you do that, the firewall in Windows will protect you. It’s one way to verify what’s causing the problem.

It is definitely Avast. I have disabled the Avast and the Windows File Sharing works just fine.

Disabling the Avast Firewall should be sufficient to test if it is that component that is the cause of your issue. Disabling Avast Firewall will cause the Windows Firewall to become active after you reboot your system.

Since the user is paying for the Avast firewall, he needs help for it to work properly.
