I just realised that my windows firewall is still on and managing connections as it asked me if I wanted to unblock a connection attempt… I have Avast Internet Security installed… shouldnt it disable Windows Firewall? it appears it hasnt, should I disable it? how do I know for sure that its working?
windows says in security center “two or more firewalls can cause conflicts between each other” - if I disable windows now it reports that Avast is on - I just dont see the point of creating a firewall that doesnt disable windows firewall and take over the job completely… as it should…
Avast designed there firewall to work with the windows one which is why it’s not disabled but you can disable the windows firewall if you wish to save some resources.
Yeah, avast! Firewall not suppose to disable Windows Firewall coz they can co-exist without any conflicts. Strange? I felt same 1st time, but that’s true.
But you can save resources by disabling Windows Firewall as “craigb” stated. Also I disabled Windows Firewall manually and avast! Firewall working seamlessly without any annoying pop-ups.
When using AIS you can disable the Windows Firewall in Windows 7 because a main additional feature of the Windows Firewall called IPSec ( encryption of LAN and VPN communications ) will remain active. But with all other / older Windows versions that is not the case, and with the Windows Firewall you also disable IPSec. So for those Windows versions it is better to keep the Windows Firewall enabled.
