On a Forum in me country, are a discussion that the Windows Firewall good enough are for HomeUsers.
I am not agree, but what are the Avast users say about this.
I use Comodo and he doing it verygood.
So i am in doubt, are the normal XP Firewall of Windows realy good???
No, it isn’t.
I also use Comodo Firewall.
Would you call a fire door that only protected you from fire from one side a fire door, I think not, so I apply the same analogy to firewalls.
There are some that say you only need inbound protection and the windows firewall does a good good of that but any malware that gets past your defences has free reign to connect to the internet.
One of the problems for novice users is when the firewall asks them a question, is it OK for this application, etc. to connect to the internet, etc. the problem is most don’t know the answer.
There are some firewalls that are very noisy (constantly popping-up questions) and these are possibly more harm than good as when you don’t know the answer often many people will only block (causing some interference with what they are doing) or those that will simply answer yes (now these people could be doing some real damage to their system and possibly finances)
So there is a fine line in the firewall used and the experience level of the user. This is where Zone Alarm ‘was’ good, it had a very user friendly user interface. It still has that friendly interface and isn’t always popping-up questions but it has become bloated.
So it isn’t a clear cut answer.
The topic of this Forum are,Windows Firewall are Good enough for Home users!!
I agree that for newby"s this option are good.
If this people working with a Firewall like Comodo or ZoneAlarm then are there a problem.
Most of all klikking they Allow and no Blokking.
That are dangerus for the computer.
But the most of the experts say on this Forum,Windows are good enough for HomeUsers.
If i use only the Windows Firewall then are i in a few days infected.
So,i don"t understand the experts.
Another thing is ZoneAlarm.
This Firewall are now very slowly, and not so good as 2 jears ago.
So give me the ComodoFirewall.
It really should have nothing to do with if a user is a home user but the experience of that user.
As to most of the ‘experts’ say on this forums (not this forum) that the windows firewall is good enough. We see the damage that can be done without outbound protection and I would say that without question anyone with only the windows XP firewall is normally pointed in the direction of a third party firewall, comodo as most are looking at free.
As for me, the Windows Firewall on XP is absolutely not good and I use Comodo Firewall which is the best to my knowledge and I recommend. On Vista, it seems Windows Firewall is better is you download the windows Firewall Control Software for outbound protection as it is ligth and efficient but I still prefer Comodo 3 beta (other versions on Vista aren,t yet compatible). Another important point is that it should go well along with AVAST, and Comodo does a good job at it! 8)
I’ll stay with DavidR ;D ZoneAlarm is still the best free firewall. You’ll face a real big problems using Comodo without someone with lot of experienced assist you while make the configuration or else you’ll end up like me. Can connect but I can’t surf. Comodo had blocked e’thing…
Comodo 3 beta works fine for me. Leave it in learning mode. Check remember it on every warning windows and click yes. It’s less user friendly than ZA Pro but less bloated. Users should know what process or service runs safe on their pc. I’m not an expert and don’t have any problem with Comodo. Be patient, it’ll pay!!!
So my friends,i am not surprise about the reactions that the windows Firewall are Burning wood.
Yes i try it so many times.
Me own Firewall out and the Windows on.Result? after a while where i infected with W32 stuff, and Troyan horses.
But try a expert his meaning to change,no thats impossebly.
These persons has learned for that and on that Forum have you to take what they say.
But i believe no one of this peopel.
So i do me own thing and use me Firewall of me choise.
Beside I try once ZoneAlarm Pro 7.00??.
Ifound him very slowly and i change to Comodo.
So Far so good,a fine Firewall.
Thank you all for the reactions.
I see you soon back.
The fact that Microsoft added outbound firewall protection to Windows Vista (though it is turned off by default) should be proof that it is needed.
Please no Vista on me comp, becouse i try it one week and i know that are the wrong choise!
This whas in the beginning of this year, and the Software of me choise where not good enough.
When Vista are ready for use then i try it again.
Here is something to remember. Not all infections come from the internet which is all the XP firewall can attempt to protect your computer from getting. Infections can also come from a CD borrowed from or given to you by a friend, from flash drives, other external devices, etc. Not having outbound protection, by home users or newbies who are less likely to understand or think about such risks and more likely to use such devices without knowing the risks, will allow such possible infections out to the internet where more infection is likely to be sent back to this computer. And, an inbound only firewall such as XP firewall will not stop this action because the initial request was made from the infected computer. This is why a firewall that gives both inbound and outbound protection is very much needed.
Maybe you should post such information on that forum you mentioned.
I have a infection from a USB Stick.
No not from me,but from a service man.
Me program Prevx2 reacting in the same moment.
So indeed, let never a other people a USBstick use in your Comp.
Problems (yet) with Vista are outbound protection.
Even Vista Firewall Control does not offer ‘parent’ application control. Any malware could connect using IE, for instance… I’m waiting to find a working firewall for my Vista. Comodo v3 has problems (network driver) and PCTools has a terrible installation/uninstallation process, leaving tons of things behind, files and registry keys…
Hi Tech let me know if you find one that works with Vista as I have had no luck so far. Even with the ones that are supposed to be Vista compatible ???
Like I’ve said, just tested Comodo v3 beta and PCTools. No luck (yet).
I’m waiting for Comodo stable version (or a new beta to test again).
To be true, I’m waiting for Alwil firewall 8)
Tech you waiting for the Alwil Firewall.
Are there signals that a Firewall is coming.
And a Suite? Or have Avast not the strategy for building a Suite?
From information that has been gleaned from snippets in the forums.
There is a likelihood that avast will have a suite of firewall and anti-virus in the future, this is more for those people who are looking for an all in one package so they don’t have to go searching around.
I don’t know if this suit option would be paid only or not, but by all accounts there would still be the stand alone AV option and possibly the same for any avast firewall.
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=29259.msg240216#msg240216
As far I know, a standalone product that could be integrated with avast. It’s not a suite, but two programs that could be integrated.
I use windows firewall because it is integrated in windows and free. I read a lot of tests, and they all said: a personal firewall on desktop brings no security, because more code brings more risks and a personal firewall can be easily shut down by a trojaner. The only thing which was recommended: a router with firewall.
