Yes, Windows is over a decade old (in same shape) and mostly just cosmetical “innovations” - the retail pricing by now reached a point where people are no longer prepared to pay up for THIS.

The Classic Mac OS was the same as windows is today, the same OS with a few new tweaks in each release. While Mac OS X really is a great improvement over the old Classic OS, the transition from the “Classic” Mac OS to OS X was not exactly smooth. Take Microsofts user base which is easily 10x the size of Apple’s and its clear they are going to have trouble pulling off a transition like that.

As long as Microsoft still boots up in 256 colour mode it proves to me they never had any intention to do something at all ::slight_smile:

Good point! To some this may seem like something totally not important, but everything starts with little details. Just take a look at those ugly Windows 95 icons still buried deep inside system (DLL) files in Windows Vista. So, it looks like they didn’t pay attention just to cosmetic changes… it’s even less than that.
