Windows is not genuine!

Please someone help!
I recently did and Avast update and now when I start my computer, I have a black screen and on the bottom right had corner, it states… Windows Vista ™ Build 6002 This copy of Windows is not genuine.

When I start my computer , I have a screen that tells me to activate windows. Now or later?
I know people hate Vista, I like it and its all I have. My computer has had minimal issues, BUT this AVAST update has messed it up. SEVERELY!!

I have checked with the recent windows updates, none failed.

please please HELP!!!

I don’t believe this has anything to do with avast as I don’t believe avast checks the windows validity (how would they).

Unfortunately with a black screen, it would be hard to determine what initiated the “Windows Vista ™ Build 6002 This copy of Windows is not genuine” message.

This sounds more like an OS screw up failing to correctly identify the OS as genuine. I have heard of this in the past.

Yes it does.

I spoke with Avast CS, since I posted this and they he stated that my Windows system must not have been updated to beable to handle the new Avast update.
Which all of my updates were. Nothing failed. So YES the new Avast update has messed it up. Everytime I computer, it asks for the Windows key, and I dont have one because it came with the computer.

I need to know, how to UNDUE what the update messed up!

If it came with the computer, you should find a sticker with the code somewhere (back/bottom/etc.).

Thank you Asyn,

That was a big help. I totally zoned that.

And Thanks you pondus for the link, it was unable to verify but it was a great help.

But now… I have this issue. avastui.exe application error picture attached
Stumped!

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Avast internet security.
Version?
no other security software. Normal stuff… defender malwarebytes. No issues with them.
This has all occured since yesterday with the new update. I did update windows 5 times after I did a system restore because that seemed to help get my computer running decent.

I attached an order screen shot from 2 yrs ago. Its was automatically renewed this last July with the same thing.
When I try to open my Avast application it does nothing.
Should I uninstall and reinstall?

Yep, let’s try a clean reinstall…

  1. Download Avast Internet Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Thank you Asyn,

I went through the first 2 steps and Avast seems to be working along with Avast Clean up.
Do you think I should still uninstall and reinstall?

Thank you so much!

Ughhh…I have been sitting here for over an hour waiting for my computer to shut down.
This update really did in my computer. .Never had this much going wrong.
Any thoughts on what else it might be doing, due to all the problems I have had?
Thank you to anyone who has any thoughts.

So, did you complete the clean reinstall or not…?

Okay. I have now Uninstalled and reinstalled Avast.
On the restart in am receiving the avast exe. Window again.

I have to admit, when it was uninstalled, my computer seem to run and move quicker.

Hi, I’m beginning to wonder if this is less of an Avast! issue, and more of something blocking Avast!..

Can you humor me, and run these directions? https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

I’ll have Essexboy, or someone take a look at the logs. They would require aswMBR, MBAM scan Log and FRST.txt (And Addition… Sometimes…).

Hiya!

Thank you for taking the time to try and help. Essexboy has helped me with minor things in the past. He had been wonderful!

I will humor you.
I have run MBAM with in the last couple weeks. Didnt have any issues. But am currently running…
I have uninstalled Avast IS again, and have not reinstalled. Because with the error, it seems to mess with my computer.
I will install Farbar recovery tool and provide the results.

Thanks again

Hiya!

I have attached the results of the scans. Thank you again for trying to help!

When I uninstalled Avast and turned my computer back on, I received a message about the proxy. I have not a clue how to fix that little alone how to change it. I can fix minor things, when it stumps me, I come here to the forum and beg for help.

Attached are the results of the fix scan .

Please keep in mind, I have not reinstalled Avast yet. I wanted to try to fix this mess before I try it again.

Thanks!

PS! Thank you Michael.

You are welcome. Wait for Essexboy’s return, he’ll have more instructions shortly I’m sure.
