I installed Avast PDA for PocketPC on my A636 to enjoy Avast reliabilty (I’m a proud pc version user). Afaik, actual Avast for PDA PocketPC2002+ version makes Windows Mobile 5 a little unstable. Sometimes Windows Mobile freeze itself at PDA power on (a soft reset is needed). Uninstalling AVAST solves freeze problem.
I hope to see a new version supporting Windows Mobile 5 soon. Meanwhile please let me know if I can help Avast team doing some beta test on Windows Mobile.
Hello Simon,
thanks for your offer - resident protection is starting when your PDA turns on, so I’ll send you a debug version - hope it’ll help although as you said: “sometimes it freezes itself, sometimes it doesnt happen at all” makes me little nervous :-.
When Auto-Update is enabled (in settings), avMonitor.exe is executed when your device turns on - then avmonitor.log will be created (in the default directory). After 1minute it’s going to connect to internet to check if there’s a new version available. When it’ll lead to device freeze, please send me avMonitor.log to my email: kurtin@asw.cz - thanks…
Ok; program installed and patch installed. I read that Asus will release in a few days a firmware upgrade that fixes several problem (just to make an example, sometimes SD card is not read at bootup). I hope to send you two log files (one before the update and one after the update).
Bug does not happen anymore after firmware upgrade. I suspect that freeze was caused by SD Card bug; old firmware sometimes does not recognize sd card. Avast is installed on sd card.
I tested for days standard version and debug version without having any problem.
Thanks a lot for time you spent helping me. Feel free to contact me to do other tests.
