Windows Protect 2009

I just bought an asus laptop with windows XP Home and i eventually got a virus called Windows Protect 2009. For those of you who dont know, it is a False anti-spyware virus that holds your computer hostage, those of you who have it, The viruses that it warns you about are harmless Zero K files that it uses to scare you into buying the 50 or 60 dollar software. This virus does not yet have any affect of mozilla firefox, so that avenue is safe. But it has some kind of relation to Conflicker, the page I found this info on is:

My question is… Does avast have any undates that will eliminate this threat. I have checked twice already but i think that the virus might be blocking any possible updates.

Download and install MBAM(malwarebytes anti-malware)

Also dnt forget to update it^^

Scan ur pc with MBAM and destroy all the threats found^^

OR u could just wait for avast! evangelists for other instructions^^

It is a fake security alert application, whilst avast does detect these fake alert programs, they are constantly changing, so if you have a sample of the file send a sample to avast.

Send the sample to virus@avast.com zipped and password protected with the password in email body, a link to this topic might help and undetected malware in the subject.

Or you can also add the file to the User Files (File, Add) section of the avast chest (if it isn’t already there) where it can do no harm and send it from there. A copy of the file/s will remain in the original location, so you will need to take further action and can remove/rename that.

Send it from the User Files section of the chest (select the file, right click, email to Alwil Software). It will be uploaded (not actually emailed) to avast when the next avast auto (or manual) update is done.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it and report the findings (it should product a log file).
