I am using Avast Premium Security on Windows 10.
I shred sensitive documents in the Recycle Bin by right clicking on the icon and selecting “Shred Recycle Bin using Avast”. I have checked that files are gone by opening the Recycle Bin after the shredding.
Every time I shut down the computer, I run Ccleaner and it is set to empty out the Recycle Bin. Amazingly, it always seems to delete the same files shredded before by Avast. I have noticed this behaviour for well over a year now. From what I have observed, it seems to know the last bunch of files shredded by Avast. So, if I delete A, B and C and shred them using Avast, then delete F, G and H and shred them and then delete P, Q and R and shred them, Ccleaner says that it is removing (i.e. deleting) P, Q and R from the Recycle Bin.It is not clear that it is actually deleting those files from the Recycle Bin as I have verified that there is nothing there
It appears the Avast does not remove the filenames from some listing that Ccleaner can access. This behaviour is rather disconcerting and makes me wonder about security in general. What is the shredder leaving behind?
Any light on the issue would be greatly appreciated.
