I have just installed Avast on my laptop and it seems to be working fine.
However, when ever I start up the SP2 Windows Security Alert pops up and says
“avast! antivirus 4.5.523 [VPS 0477-1] reports that it might be out of date.”
If I do an update though avast tells me that everything is up to date.
Has anyone else had this?
Cheers.

Latest version is 4.5.529 > http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=9007;start=msg74561

Sorry, Eddy, 523 is still the latest “final” release. 529 is as of a minute ago still considered a beta and being worked on.
Best,
Mike

zenmaster, please make sure your system clock is set correctly.
Vlk, some antivirus has the option to set how old should be the VPS file to SP2 Windows Security Alert pops up and reports that it might be out of date.
How long XP SP2 checks for this date?
Can it be controled by avast4.ini file?
Thanks.

I DID search - for “SP2” and “Security Alert”. I found nothing relevant.
I am sure that, as you are a 5-star general, you may have thought of much better search terms, but I did not. I know the forum rules. I may be new here, but I have been posting elsewhere since you were a cadet.
As for the thread you mention; of course I read it - it’s at the top of the topic. However, it clearly states BETA in the title and I do not install beta versions of software that I am not familiar with.
Vlk - I have checked my system clock and it was indeed set incorrectly. I was checking the calendar earlier and I must have clicked “OK” instead of “Cancel”. Stupid mistake :-\ - I will not do it again.
Thank you.

zenmaster, I’m glad you got your problem fixed!
hey, we all overlook simple things sometimes–that is what I am a master at doing… ;D

Good point, Technical – and if it’s not currently possible, it would make a nice addition to the “wish list”.
Ad-Aware (the relatively new SE, that is) added a feature that warns if you start a scan but your defs are more than 14 days old. And I seem to remember that either in A-A’s own setup, or in its “Tweak” plug-in, there’s an option to change the age that’s considered too old.
Vlk, can you answer me (or, better, me and Mike ;D)?
