OS XPpro sp2
I currently use Avast home edition updated 7/10/2006.On start up the Windows Security alert states Avast is not working. A check of the system shows that it is. I have been using Win Xp and Avast for some time now and this is the first
instance of this warning. Can anyone throw some light on this problem.
Hi :
There has been several threads recently on this subject;
can find them by using this forum's "search" . Perhaps

Sometimes, Windows Security Center stop recognizing your antivirus or firewall… The fix could be fairly easy for the most part.
- Go to control panel and open Administrative tools.
- Click on services.
- Go down to Windows Managament Instrumentation.
- Stop this service. Stop Security Center service too.
Let them to Automatically start. - Exit out of this area to your desktop.
- Right click Start and choose Explore.
- Go to c:\windows\system32\wbem\repository.
Delete this subdirectory ONLY. Let the others there. - Exit back to your desktop and reboot your computer (maybe you need to boot twice).
This will rebuild the deleted folder and the database. Once restarted, Windows Security Center should show the correct info and antivirus and firewall should now be recoginized

Many thanks for your responses.
I have tried the fix suggested but no success.
In the meantime I have cancelled the alert.
It is not really a problem as I do not need a reminder to update.
Howenver I guess one likes to know what is the cause.
It is interesting that the problem ocurred after the most recent program update.
Thanks Richard
Did you remove only the specified folder?
It SHOULD work :
Which is your avast version and virus database version?
Is the message saying you don’t have virus protection or just it is not updated?
