I got a problem here and I need your help. My Windows Security Centre in my PC’s Windows XP SP2 cannot detect the presence of my Avast Antivirus software. Currently, my Avast Home Antivirus Engine’s License is still valid and up-to-date, however, my Windows Security Centre ‘Virus Protection’ section still show that Antivirus not found.
I wonder how can I rectify the problem and let Windows Security Centre able to detect and monitor my Avast Antivirus status again. For your info, this problem happens after I have temporarily stop the ‘Stop On-Access Protection’ but having forgotten to resume it before shutting down my PC.
From then onwards, my Windows Security Centre ‘Virus Protection’ has stopped detecting the presence of my Avast Home Antivirus engine.
I hope you guys can help me to resolve this problem. Is there something Avast Home Antivirus Engine need to improve so that such a problem or bug will not surface again?
Hope to hear from you guys soon. Thanks!
Conway
P.S. - Please do not ask me to click on “Recommendation” in the ‘Virus Protection’ section and put a tick in it so that the problem can be resolved. As I will really like the Windows Security Centre to detect and monitor my Avast Home Antivirus Engine status for me.
This features regularly and a forums search returns this http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23457.msg193534#msg193534, which is possibly the only effective way to reset the WSC detections and the only one which has had any degree of success and even that isn’t 100%
Really thankful for your help. It works! I have also learnt something very useful from you too.
Btw, Can you recommend a free and reliable Firewall to me which will be supported by the Windows Security Centre? Please give me the URLs of those free Firewall you recommend. Thanks!
I personally don’t have a free firewall Outpost Pro, and it is a personal preference of which user experience is also an issue. Some firewalls are great but they pop-up warnings and ask permission to such an activity to have the user either accept them all or deny them all. Neither is good but unfortunately you need to have an idea what the question being asked is about. So whatever firewall you choose you have to be able to live with it.
I have a copy of Kerio Personal Firewall with the Keygen but I do not really know how to install it with the Keygen. Can you help me, please? If you can, I can pass the Kerio Personal Firewall, together with the Keygen to you. After you have installed it successfully, you may tell me how you do it.
Conway, keygens and cracks are not the best thing to talk about here in forums…
You don’t need the professional features of Kerio, believe me. You can have them with other free tools.
You can use Comodo Firewall for free… no need to use Kerio keygen :
You said that Keygens and Cracks are not the best thing to discuss about here in the forums. Why do you say so? Do you mean that the people here don’t use Keygens and Cracks softwares?
Sigh!!! If only, Avast can incorporate its own firewall in its Antivirus Engine, I will not be so headache. Now, I have installed the Kerio Firewall but I can’t get it to work as a fully functional firewall.
Tech, if you are using Kerio Firewall too, can you help me please? I really don’t know how to get the keygen to work for the installed firewall.
I certainly didn’t pick up on the significance of the keygen when you requested help, I though it was some form of automatic registration generating the key as I assumed that KPF was free. I now know there is a paid for version also. Now I realise that with your subsequent comments, that it is a keygen to use the paid for version without paying for a license.
Even saying you would send it to me, now that would leave me open to any consequences of having and installing the software, etc. and I don’t take kindly to that, that you are happy to possibly but my system at risk just so you can save $19.95. Totally unimpressed.
You said that Keygens and Cracks are not the best thing to discuss about here in the forums. Why do you say so? Do you mean that the people here don't use Keygens and Cracks softwares?
Because their use in most countries is illegal as it is theft of intellectual property and is hardly going to be condoned on a forum available to the public, not to mention there are people trying to use keygenerators/cracks to use the avast Pro version. So condoning one would be condoning the other.
Because they are generally illegal you have to obtain them from dubious sites and you are very likely to get another unwelcome gift along with it, you can hardly go to the police.
There are free versions of KPF (not to mention other firewalls) so use that and don’t take away the revenue stream that supports the free product.
I am sorry to cause such an upset to you but it was not intentional as I don’t mean not to respect any intellectual property rights and expose you to any unnecessary risks. Honestly, I am not rich as I have been out of job for several years. Moreover, I don’t even have any credit cards to purchase online, even though, I would very much like to buy the product online like you guys. :‘( Frankly speaking, who would not want to get the actual original product, with all the supports from the respective company if only I have such a means? But I really don’t have such a means. :’( If I have the means, I will be using the Avast Antivirus Pro version or any others better Antivirus softwares instead of the free Home Avast Antivirus version. So you can see, it is not that I don’t respect intellectual property right, otherwise, I will be using some cracked Avast Pro version and not this free Home Avast version instead and from this you can see that I don’t have the means to purchase the original version of any products at the moment.
In fact, I am very thankful that of all the Antivirus softwares companies in the market, Avast is willing to even provide free products and services to the public which is very rare now in today world and I will not hold back in complimenting Avast on such generosity.
You said that there are free version of Kerio Firewall available, can you recommend me to its website please? Please do not recommend me to its trial version as it will expire in a matter of time.
Once again, I am sorry to cause such an upset to you.

P.S. - Since Avast can provide free Home Antivirus version, why can’t they incorporate the Firewall feature in its Antivirus Engine too? I believe it will definitely benefit alots of its users, including me too, without the hassle of resorting to other firewalls, and surely it will gain the utmost support from all its users too.
You want something better yet you do not want to pay. I’m sorry to say this but not everything is free in this world. You have to realize that programmers put a lot of time and efforts into creating these types of programs. And speaking from experience, a lot of these “cracks” or “keygens” are really in fact virus files. So if you’re willing to take the risk just to save $19.95, that’s your choice. Don’t make it sound like it’s unfair to have to pay for these things. Windows XP has its own firewall, why don’t you use it instead? After all, it’s FREE
The following 2 Sites have info on software firewalls :
1) www.spychecker.com/software/firewall.html
2) www.filehippo.com/software/firewalls/
IF you get the Sygate, I can refer you to a site that has a "SetUp Guide" .
I found it by doing a google search (an underused resource) for Kerio Personal Firewall and that gives a link to Sunbelt’s web site who are now the distributors of KPF http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm.
Many can’t afford to pay for pro versions of software, the retired for instance, but there really is a wealth of freeware not to have to circumvent paid for software without the associated risks. You must however still thoroughly check out what software, especially security based software free or paid for, you shouldn’t be loading something because its free but because it does what you need.
I really appreciate your understanding and kind assistance in helping me to source for a free personal firewall. I do agree with DavidR that I shouldn’t install anything that is free but rather it serves my need and thus I have uninstalled my Kerio Firewall installation and I have decided to adopt Tech’s advice in using Comodo Firewall. I have also checked its ratings in one of those links provided by Spiritsongs. Comodo Firewall has scored a 5 stars ratings, apart from Zonealarm Firewall.
Dragonboy, I agree with you that not everything is free in this world and I also agree with you too that programmer indeed put in alot of time and efforts in creating these softwares but I hope that you can understand too that not everyone in this world has the means to purchase things online; either due to financial constraints or becos of some regulatory constraints that they are not able to apply credit cards. As I have said earlier in my posting, if only I have the means I would rather pay for it and get the actual original products and get all the supports provided by the respective companies that come with the products.
Anyway, I really want to thank you guys for your assistance here in putting up your postings. Tech, if I have any doubts regarding Comodo Firewall, I hope you can help me up with it. Will you?

P.S. - Does anyone use “Spyware Terminator” in their PC, together with Avast Home Antivirus? Is “Spyware Terminator” a fake or genuine Antispyware application? I have used it on my PC and find that it takes quite a while before I loaded up my IE browser. Does anyone experienced the same problem like me too?
I am probably the most negative about "Spyware Terminator" because of the "rogue/suspect"
background of its Makers; you can read something about their "checkered past" in the
"Best resident protection spyware blocker?" thread in this forum. I prefer to use products that
are deemed "Trustworthy" by antiSPYWARE Expert Eric Howes, which can be found at :
www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy .
The "checkered past" of the Comodo people is why I do NOT have their firewall on my machine;
1 or 2 of their products are in the database of the Excellent "prevent-type" antiSPYWARE
program called "SpywareBlaster"; this FREE program is available at :
www.javacoolsoftware.com .
