I’m getting the following warning when trying to open an MP3 file in an e-mail.
I know this file is clean cause I just sent it to myself from another e-mail account.
I tried to save the file and get an error that states:
The Command failed to Execute. The error message or warning was issued by OE.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Is the file corrupt (is it a playable mp3) or is this perhaps a function of your isp to stop music transfers?
Open OE > Options > Security allow files to be saved there.

It’s defenitly clean. Took it off my own CD and put it on the computer.

Do you use Thunderbird mail client and will that allow the file?
Secondly, were you sending it to/from gmail, perhaps it might not allow mp3’s?
You have to close and reopen OE before changes take effect there. Did you do that?
Just an idea. Do you happen to use the Windows Firewall? If so check its settings.

Sent from gmail to a pop3 acct no problem, but I use Thunderbird for email. Isn’t a gmail thing if you used that.
This problem has nothing to do with gmail.
I first ran into this problem when I received an e-mail from a friend and it had an mp3 file attached.
Since I had the problem with that attachement, I sent a file to myself which I knew was clean to use as a test and ran into the same problem.
Eddy the settings in OE are and have been my settings since I installed SP2.
They are not new.
can’t offer any other suggestions, sorry! My email client isn’t the same as the one you are having problems with. Got to admit defeat on this one.
Sometimes you have to change a setting in OE, close IE, reopen it, undo the setting, close, reopen, before they are active again. I’ve seen this behaviour quiet some times. Just give it a try. It won’t hurt

When I change the settings to block potential harmful files, I don’t even have access to the file and OE displays the following: (see attached jpg)
When I change back and allow downloading and opening of files, I go back to the original error.
Do you know if there is any place in the registry where I can get direct access to this setting?

By the way, I restarted the system after making each change even thou it probably wasn’t required.

I used Outlook Express for years myself before switching to THunderbird. I had the problem and it SHOULD be fixed by making sure that “do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus” is NOT checked. That worked for me. As said by the others, after making changes you normally have to close OE, then reopen it.

The only thing that comes to mind is the Filter control in Thunderbird and the Adaptive filter.
Check these to make sure they are not blocking the mp3 files.
I do not know of any other setting within TB that might affect the file in question.
Already checked out that link I gave you? That is a registry fix.

I know it should have worked but, it didn’t.
I have no problems with opening and saving jpg files but for some reason, mpg files don’t open and can’t be saved??? ??? ???
Yo Bob Is this happening on the computer that is running 98? Did you install that Unofficial Windows 98 SE Service Pack 1.6.2 on it? Did it start happening after that???

Sorry connie I don’t see anything in the file types where there are any restrictions placed on MP3 files.
Just a wild stab in the dark since I don’t have SP2 installed. Is there anything in the Windows Security Center (WSC), because that warning window and Icon looks very like the WSC.
