I was having one hell of a time getting Avast to recognize the SQL Server 2005 Express 64 bit install I had done on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2. I read several guides that were doing pretty much exactly what I was doing.
I’m used to entering what the field is asking for. It asks for the server name, I enter the server name. One guide said to enter servername/instancename. I was able to connect to the database properly with the osql command, but couldn’t get Avast to connect. Of course the error it gives doesn’t inform you of the proper syntax.
Microsoft’s site said the syntax for the osql command was servername\instancename. I gave that a try and whala!
Now I’m having a deployment problem. I am deploying from the above mentioned server to a Windows 7 Professional x64 machine. I am using a domain administrator account. The following appears in the Remote Install log.
10/03/10 10:43:20: rinstInstall begin
10/03/10 10:43:20: Init 50 60 C:\Windows\TEMP\aswD821.tmp C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Management Tools\InstPkgs NULL C:\Windows\TEMP\aswD820.tmp 0
10/03/10 10:43:21: Store
10/03/10 10:43:21: Domains: Hammett,
10/03/10 10:43:21: Init HAMMETT\SHOP-PC
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: GetAccount
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: Queueing

10/03/10 10:43:21: Loop
10/03/10 10:43:21: SpawnThreads
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: StartSetup
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: Connecting
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: OpenSCManager error 5 (Access is denied)
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: OpenSCMImpersonated
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: LogonUser Avast Hammett error 1385 (Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer)
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: RemoveOnError
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: CloseConnection
10/03/10 10:43:21: SHOP-PC: Finished with error
10/03/10 10:43:21: TerminateAll
10/03/10 10:43:21: rinstInstall end 0
you can see: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer
did you fill in the domain\username format for the user to use to deploy or just the username?
what i do for the deployment of avast 4.8 on Win7 is using the MSI generated package. Its not elegant
but it does the trick until the Small Business Console (the succesor of ADNM) is released
I’ve had 30 Win 7 computers to install Avast on, and 3 gave me problems. Just something weird that goes on for Win 7 I guess.
So Windows 7 has been released for over a year and probably at least another year worth of beta and Avast doesn't properly support 7 yet?
Unfortunately, no. Trust me, we’re all eagerly awaiting Avast 5.1 to come out and we heard that it would come out in September. Obviously, that’s not the case, and we haven’t even seen a beta yet. 5.1 is supposed to fully support windows 7, and with that release, we’ll have a new version of the ADNM console as well.
My guess is that once that’s out, and we work through any bugs during the beta, then win 7 and 2008 server will work. Hopefully Exchange 2010 as well.
Any word for the release of Small Business Console and how the name will affect government and medium\large business clients?
I don’t know what you mean by that… are you referring to the ADNM Console?
Anyway, in order to get Avast installed on machines that fail, it’s easiest to do what WPN said, and just generate an MSI package and install it manually. Or, you might be able to distribute the msi using group policy, but I’ve never tried.
Haven’t had problems with the 2007 plugin, except for originally creating an Outlook profile (mostly on new system builds). I just let Outlook disable the plugin, restart outlook, let it create the profile and start send/receive, then I enable the plugin again. After that, the plugin works just fine from what I can tell…
