Windows stuck on Welcome screen on boot up unless avast is disabled

Hi all,

Sorry if there are similar threads on this board regarding this. I did a search first before starting a new topic, I did find a somewhat similar thread experiencing the same issue but with the free program. But since the thread was about 6 months old I was instructed to create a new thread. I’ve been very frustrated with this issue for a few weeks now, I’m hoping you guys can point me to the right direction. Here goes…

Environment:
avast Endpoint Protection Suite
Client version on the PC is 7.0.1455
Windows 7 64bit SP1

A Windows Update in November caused this particular PC to get stuck on the Welcome screen on boot up. I entered safe mode went into msconfig and started disabling services (including avast), I was able to successfully boot up the PC then. I then went back into safe mode to enable each service one at a time, the PC was able to boot up successfully with each services added until I enabled avast, then the PC would get stuck once again on the Welcome screen. I then logged in to safe mode again, went into services as administrator and attempted to set avast to delayed start but I believe avast is hindering me from doing that and I am getting a “delayed auto-start flag could not be set.” error.

So I am at a loss as to how to get this PC to boot up properly if avast is enabled. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.
