I’m running Avast 4.7 on Windows XP Pro, SP2, and ever since I installed Avast a few weeks ago, Windows takes several minutes at the “Shutting down Windows” flash screen, whereas prior to installing Avast, it would only display the “Shutting down Windows” splash for several seconds. What is Avast doing to slow down Windows shutdowns, and how can I fix it? Thanks.
Is the avast icon rotating whilst this is going on ?
What other security programs do you have that are running at shutdown ?
Do you happen to have any of the Program Settings, Common section, Check, Floppy, CDs or other removable media options enabled ?
Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
Any other security programs that could interfere?
Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’.
This fix from Microsoft will fix many slow shutdown problens!
ONLY FOR XP, though, as far as I am aware.
