Windows Updates: There are 7 windows updates I can't install for 2 years now

I called Avast tech support about a year ago about a separate issue and mentioned this problem with windows update… . The tech was pretty concerned and tried to help me fix the issue but time constraints forced me to end the call.

I never called back because I sure I could fix this myself but now it’s a year later and still no luck :-[
I’ve attached a pdf describing the windows update errors and a report generated this morning by WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

Demetrios

Why am I still awaiting approval?

Because only moderators can give approval and moderators are avast team members, so they aren’t here all of the time. Though some long time forum users can still see the post we can’t approve it.

I don’t why it might have been blocked as there are no URLs, etc. which in many cases is the cause for blocking.

Though you say you attached a .pdf, that isn’t an approved attachment and would no doubt have been disallowed - hence your 4 .jpg images. I just wonder having tried to attach a .pdf the post was flagged/blocked awaiting approval.

I can’t really answer your question, but in the past I have had several windows updates that failed, no matter how long I tried. This could be that there is some sort of prerequisite that isn’t present on your system, unfortunately trying to find why is very difficult. The problem being failed updates are continually offered again and again.

In my win7 SP1 32bit starter edition (on an acer netbook) I have been trying to update from IE10 to IE11 and that fails every time and I can find no reason why. I have even downloaded the update for off-line installation and that too fails with no meaningful indication of why.

Thanks for replying.

I gave up with the Windows 7 updates and bit the bullet by dusting off my old Windows 8 CD and “upgrading”. Ever since the 8.1 update came out I’ve thought about trying Windows 8 again. When I bought this laptop in 2012 it came with Windows 7 pre installed and included a free Windows 8 upgrade. When the upgrade went live I downloaded it from the Microsoft store. I also purchased the Windows 8 CD’s just in case. Ultimately I decided to downgrade back to Windows 7 which is where I’ve been stuck ever since because I never saved the Windows 8 activation key that Microsoft e mailed me when I bought the CD’s

It never occurred to me that the Microsoft store would retain a copy of the activation key e mail but it turns out they did. I called them about this issue and they forwarded the e mail to me.

Windows 8.1 is definitely better than Windows 8 but I think I’d still prefer Windows 7. Perhaps I just need to get used to it but I think Window’s 8+ will primarily benefit people who have Windows Smartphones.

TL;DR I no longer need to the Windows 7 updates. I “fixed” the problem by “upgrading” to Windows 8

You’re welcome.

That’s one way of getting round updates that continually fail to install.
