Windows Vista, Avast Won't update

Ok, I give up. Searched the forum, no luck.

My problem, just installed Avast 4.8 Home, registered with the free key from the email, everything is working fine.

But there’s no try to update, when I restart Vista, appears the red window with the info: “an error has occurred while attempting to update!”

The Firewall is off, i’m not using any on the system, and if I click the icon on the tray and choose to update, nothing happens, nothing, nada, zip.

So, what can I do to fix it ?

Thanks

What happens if you click the red popup window that says that update has failed?

What internet connection are you using ? Dial-up ? Are you connected with your internet when it update?

Do you have any other anti virus program working on your system ? Or previous ?

Nothing happen, nothing, I always click, the window doesn’t go away if I doesn’t

I’m always connected, and it’s checked ‘My computer is permanently connected to the internet’. Anod no, it’s one Vista clean install, first AV to use on it.

And yes, I removed UAC.

Thank you guys

Please, post the last 200-250 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

No can go…

“The message exceeds the maximum allowed length (10000 characters).”

My Setup.log file:

Thanks

Only the last 250 lines… or use more than one post and you’ll be able to do so.

Are you logged as an administrator?
I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation. Maybe it will be necessary to disable the self-defence module of avast (Troubleshooting tab of settings) if it will be possible to enter the program settings or, at least, boot into safe-mode and start aswClear.exe from there.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the last version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Guys, I fixed, thanks.

What I did ? I just reinstalled Vista. Installed Avast first, and worked. Now it’s downloading the updates.

Thank you for the help.

I really don’t know what was wrong.

Well… you’ve used brute force… but we’re glad you finally get everything working.
Feel free to come back any time you need help.
