My sister has an HP TouchSmart Tablet PC.
I used to be able to periodically go use it to use their High Speed Internet to download Apps onto my Flash Drive with no problem.
This past Saturday, their computer would NOT recognize my Flash Drive in either of its 2 USB slots.
Is there any Setting they could have done that disabled recognition of my Flash Drive?
I noticed when I went to use the computer, it had an iPod hooked up to one of the USB Ports. Could they perhaps have changed a Setting to allow the iPod to work and now THAT caused my Flash Drive NOT to be recognized?
I didn’t ask them because they are NOT computer savvy. Any Settings changes are performed by some Tech Dude.
When I tried my Flash Drive back here on my computer, it worked just fine.
True, I THINK MY old HP Pavilion 6730 has USB 1.0 vs. that Tablet PC’s USB 2.0.
But, Hey! All those other times, that Tablet PC used to be able to recognize my Flash Drive.
Any ideas on what’s up?
Could having defragged my Flash Drive recently thrown something off?
I can’t see why it would.
I do know that they have Parental Controls or something like that set up.
For example, when I was first gonna use the computer, their daughter was at the computer and she had to log off and then my brother-in-law had to log on because only with HIS Password would I be able to download anything. So, I’m wondering if some other Setting was also changed to where NO Flash Drives are acknowledged.

No smoking gun per se.
But, it did confirm that a lot of other people with Vista Ultimate are experiencing this problem.
I searched in 2 other sites and the same thing. A bunch of people experiencing the same problem, but no one really having a solution.

Of course, for them it’s NOT a problem because they don’t use Flash Drives. So, they weren’t even aware there was a problem.
It doesn’t surprise me that my sister’s computer could have gotten its USB Ports glitched up to where they don’t recognize Flash Drives. My sister and her husband are NOT Fans, NOT believers of periodically Rebooting their computer, much less actually powering it down periodically. I’ve tried to get them to do this periodically, but have had no success. I’ve told them that App remnants can be accumulating in RAM as certain Apps don’t always release the entire RAM they were using. But, nope. I’m sure they haven’t rebooted that computer since they got it several months ago, much less powered it down.
Oh you must mean the Windows Updates.
To tell you the truth, I have no idea whether they even have them set to automatic install.
If they do, that’s the only reboots that computer gets.
I know they never turn it off, just like they never turned off their previous computer.
Either way, it’ll probably be a while before I get a chance at trying that — Power Down and complete unplugging of the computer idea from that link. I only go there to my sister’s place once or twice a month.
