I have recently ran the freeware version of avast. After running a quick scan it recommended I do a boot scan. I must have allowed it to delete a file I shouldn’t have, because since running I can no longer connect to the internet or my router. The system cannot get an IP address and even when I manually set the IP it still will not connect. Any help would be appreciated or else I am going to have to purchase Windows 7 and kill my xp install.
Did you delete or send the file to Chest?
If you really deleted… well, no solution besides trying overinstallation.
Just choose ‘Repair’ installation of Windows and install ‘over’ the old installation.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I can’t re-install because I don’t have the disks.
I think I put it in the chest - can you tell me how to get it out of the chest? i couldn’t find anywhere in the UI or install directory to retrieve files from. Thanks
Maintenance > Chest > right click the file > Restore.
Thanks - just found the ‘how to’ on the knowledge base ::). I will give it a try tonight.
No problems. Post back the results.
