windows xp can't boot due to corrupt config file.

hi everyone,

i have windows xp home on my other computer, and i cant boot because of this corrupt "config"file. i tried to repair it using it’s built in recovery but it also gave an error. now i can’t reinstall windows because i dont’ have a cd.

I know my important files are still there, is there any way i could recover them? like running ubuntu live cd or something?
i don’t want to take out the hard disk and run it as slave cause i dont wanna mess up the other pc. :frowning:

it’s not really important if i can reinstall windows. i just want to recover some important documents.

hope you guys could help me. thanks in advance. :frowning:

Hi…

One way you could go about this is to purchase a external hard drive enclosure, attach your hard drive to it and plug it in to one of your second computer’s USB or firewire ports.

May God bless you

can you boot into Safe Mode? - tap F8 key as computer is turned on until screen comes up offering different options for Safe Mode, etc.
In this case, choose instead Last Known Good Configuration and see if that will boot you into Windows.

thanks ardvark and mkis.

i was so desperate i forgot about the enclosures. but will an ubuntu live cd work too? because it’s cheaper.

@mkis, sorry i can’t boot into safe mode, the error is still there.
