Windows XP Multiple Users 1 License

I have Wndows XP with multiple user accounts. I have intalled Avast! 4.7 on my computer and installed the License key. It works fine. However, it doesn’t work on the other accounts. I get an error whenever I log into one of these other accounts: License Key Invalid. When I try to put my license key in it still says invalid.
The other users accounts are administrators.

Can I run multiple users on the same machine with one license key?
What am I doing wrong?

A known issue for me…
More than one Administrator account and the problem appear. Maybe you have to enable the real Administrator account and register from there (and not an account with admin rights).
If you search the board youll find how to do this (Ive posted more than once, maybe with my name and keyword Administrator youll find something). Sorry, Im out of my official computer, without the quich answer to give you. I`ll ask for Alwil official help too…

Drugar, sounds like someone has changed the access rights to some registry keys… Is that possible?

Could you please check if the users for which it doesn’t work have at least READ access rights to the following registry key?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ALWIL Software\Avast\4.0

Thanks
Vlk

hello Vlk
I have the same problem as drugar but I don’t understand your answer.
Notabily how is it possible to realize the check you are talking about ?

Start menu > Run
Type Regedit and click Ok.
Browse for the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ALWIL Software\Avast\4.0
Right click the name of the key at left and on the context menu choose Permitions.
Take a screenshot of this window or post its contents here.

Good call VLK.
However, I am unable to give myself access thru this user.
I’ll try giveing access thru the user that works.
Any other tips?
Thanks

Drugar

Nice!
That did it.

Thanks brother!

Drugar

SOSO, as an administrator, run the Registry Editor, go to the key mentioned in my post above, right-click it and select Permissions, and make sure all e.g. “Everyone” (or “Users”) have at least READ access.

This may not be the same problem, but on W2k, after adding a second user, I cannot login as that user because the Webschlock.txt file is locked and “can’t be copied from the Default User dir”. I tried sharing the file and changing its permissions, but that didn’t work. The is no permissions context menu appearing when I use regedit.

Any suggestions? Thanks, rb

This file is created by WebShield in a temporary folder (set by the %TEMP% variable). While WebShield is running this file is held locked to prevent the deletion of TEMP_avast_ folder on disk, where temporary files for webshield are dynamically created.

Probably your first user uses the default profile and during the first login of new users all files from this default profile are copied. This apparently includes the TEMP folder and the files under it.

You can try to terminate webshield provider for the time of first login, and restart it when the user’s profile and it’s TEMP folders are created.

Strange thing is that as WebShield is running as a service it should be using global TEMP path (usually in C:\WINDOWS\TEMP) and this folder should not be copied to the “Document and Settings” location for each user.

What is your system wide value of the TEMP variable? (Control Panel / System / Advanced / Environment Variables )
