Windows XP Pro SP3 can't boot into safe mode,stuck at aswrvrt.sys

[s]OS: Windows XP Pro SP3

Uninstalled avast 7 as I had to clone the whole disk over to a new hard drive, as it was preventing me from booting it up. But after cloning and booting the system up successfully on the new hard drive, I tried to reinstall avast 2014 but failed without any error code. Tried to boot into safe mode to run avastclear.exe but stopped at loading aswrvrt.sys.

Edit: problem fixed.

How was it fixed please?!?!?

Still have the same problem (XP won’t boot in safe mode, stuck at aswrvt.sys), I cannot find the answer.
