Windows XP SP2

Thanks Vlk
It sure does. But the SP2 File doesn’t. hopefully it gets updated on Tuesday.

I’ve already installed the one from Rejz’s link :frowning: It doesn’t have digital sig… What should I do? Everythings working fine though… What do you guys recommend?

I feel ill…lol. Should I be seriously worried about this? ???

Everything is working really really good. Is this a hacked v. of SP2? Or just
an earlier release? Is there a way to uninstall?

I think its just an earlier version.

I really should’ve checked it out before I installed. I jumped the gun on this one. I DO hope it’s just an earlier v. If that is the case how do I get the newer?

Just wait until they release it properly I guess (Sometime this month), then maybe you can just install it over the top?

After the official Windows update release is out, you can simply uninstall the version you have and got to windows update and start again.
In the meanwhile, enjoy what you have. I am.

Yeah…it’s working well…but I was worried it was a hacked version or something. If it’s just an earlier release…I’m cool with that. I figured out how to uninstall it… but if it’s just an earlier release…then I’ll keep it until I get the final. Just wanna make sure it’s not a hacked v. It’s driving me nuts.

The URL’s came from RejZoR so I highly doubt that there is any problem.

But the thing is that if it were to be an earlier version, Microsoft will still put its digital signature on it, right? Hmmm… :-\

Neowin SP2 Info - http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?id=23138&category=main

For me, I would format my drive completely and reinstall Windows just to make sure there isn’t any hidden files hiding somewhere on my system. Just for me though…

::sighs::: oh man… I don’t wanna reformat… I got so much #*&$ on here that I’ll have to reinstall…

Ah well… I guess it’s gotta be done. It would be stupid of me not to. got myself into this.

RejZor is talking about slipstreaming. To do this, you will need the SP2 file, and your original XP CD. I would not recommend doing the slip streaming manually, but instead use “AutoStreamer” This little app takes all the work out of it. Heres a link!
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?s=9e58c802adc82dadd24613f5b838809a&showtopic=188337&st=0&#entry2453585

You basically download and unzip auto streamer. It will ask you to insert your XP CD. It will then recognize your original XP CD. You then point to your SP2 file within auto streamer. It will run and create an ISO file to whatever location you choose. All you have to do is burn that to a CD, with a burner that is capable of burning ISO files. You will then have a bootable CD with XP SP2, that you can do clean installs with. That way there is no need to install XP, then turn around and install the service pack. If you don’t have a burner that handles ISO files. Look here!

http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/3/1/3-1-13.shtml

Burn at once will associate itself with all ISO files that you have created. All you have to do is right click on the ISO file you created with AutoStreamer, and select burnatonce. It will start the application with everything loaded. It will then burn the ISO file properly to the blank CD. By the way…Burnatonce is FREE!

Hope this helps!

Well…some guy on the neowin forums said this…

Well as I have said.

Windows Beta

File Name: WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe

Size: 266 MB (278,927,592 bytes)

MD5: 59a98f181fe383907e520a391d75b5a7

CRC32: 46F12B1

MSDN

File Name: XPSP2.EXE

Size: 265 MB (278,920,704 bytes)

MD5: 94276421fa963122a4e434d3b14fdc01

CRC32: F76354CA

And yes MSDN is just minus the sig.

Anyways make sure your download is one or the other or more than likly it has been changed.

As always you should take care downloading and make sure antivirus is running at all times.

And btw the source is me as I am a microsoft beta tester and MSDN subsubscriver. Just for those who wanted to know.

Take Care,
Will

When will SP2 be avaliable on the windows update site? And what is RC1 and RC2? All this SP2 stuff confuses me…

Should I wait until its released in windows update?

Has microsoft OFFICIALLY released SP2 for download by the public?

RC means Release Candidate…

The official xpsp2.exe file that’s on the CD does not have a signature either… Maybe these guys forgot to add it?? :o

When will SP2 be avaliable via Windows update

Yeah…I think the one Rejz linked us to is a real sp2 file. The md5 matches the one that guy in the neowin forums said it was. He said there was no sig file with it. I’m not going to worry about it. It seems just dandy to me.

OK, my two cents here…

Why should anyone jump the gun with this one ? I mean, if we could wait untill now, we can wait a little bit longer to see final, but I really mean FINAL release on the Microsoft WEB site. If it’s final, then they would release it on official Windows Update site. Don’t get me wrong guys, of course SP2 is A MUST, but final version, not some “unfinished” stuff… even when it becomes official and final release, I’m sure we’ll see many more updates to come… this guy will find this issue, that guy will find something else that doesn’t work as it should work and so on, and so on…

My SP1 works just great, I really don’t feel any need to update it untill it’s final release. Anyway, we really don’t know who is meesing with those SP2 update files out there… maybe it’s silly, but someone with very good hacking attributes could “fix” something inside, and open some security holes… that way, in the future, he/she or anybody else who wants to do something like that, would be able to workaround security measures even in SP2… think about it… maybe it sounds silly, but for sure it’s possible.

Always look for digital signature. One of company’s policy that I work for is: “Never install any drivers for windows without digital signature, no matter how good and improved they are. Just wait for Microsoft to sign it… we don’t need even more problems just because drivers are not signed…

People, be patient… I’m sure they will release final SP2 very soon… even after that, good and wise thing to do is to wait little (little) bit longer, just to see how everything works on other systems.

Cheers !

Well…technically the final has already been released
