Has avast! started testing XP SP3 ? I have and would like to know if I have any special things to
be aware of as far as compatibility ?
At this point, I haven’t really noticed any difference but only time and continued use will tell.
If I’m not mistaken MS hasn’t release the final SP3 version and it doesn’t show on my windows update, and it still a beta version please correct me if I am right or wrong.
You’re right. SP3 is on beta phase. Some of the features are Vista security adaptations to XP. The question of Bob is quite good: they need to be prepared, we want fully compatibility, and by the experience of Vista, you can think everything is ok and keep sit doing nothing.
Hi Dwarden,
As I’ve already stated, I’m not having any problems but do want to make sure that Alwil is up to speed
and makes sure that there will not be any glitches during SP3’s evolvement and eventual full implementation.
I would have thought that they would be monitoring the situation and ensuring avast is up to speed. Since much of SP3 will be a collation of all security updates after SP2 (in much the same way as previous SPs), there isn’t that much new that is in SP3. Some of that is what is already in Vista so I think it won’t be a huge task for Alwil.
Remember avast was one of the first AVs available for Vista in beta and RC forms and that would have been a much greater undertaking.
Obviously only Alwil can say what they are doing relating to XP SP3.
Well, as I wrote a couple of months ago ;D - yes, avast! is being tested against new service packs.
I’m not aware of any changes though - except for one in boot-time scanner (old builds wouldn’t work with SP3). But the changes were done quite some time ago already.
Dan,
The expected release date is the first quarter of 2008.
Should we start a contest to see who can come closest to the actual release date ??? ;D ;D
