Windows XP/SP3 startup delay with AVAST!7

With the upgrade to version 7, Avast seems to be causing a startup delay with my firewall and/or wireless internet connection. Also the tray icon sometimes installs even though I have it set to not install.

Some initial startup programs will install then there will be a pause. Evenually, a security icon will show up in the tray warning me that the firewall isn’t on. Another pause, then the wireless network icon will show up in the tray, and the firewall warning will disappear. The firewall does install. So everything does install, just in a way that’s a little annoying.

This also happened initially when I installed version 5, but I resolved with the trouble shooting settings by not doing a root kit scan at start-up and also checking the box to NOT load avast until after loading other system services. It appears that some of avast’s startup settings are not working initially.

I was suffering a similar problem with Avast taking a very long time to start up although my start up programs are few, WinPatrol, Launchy and a wireless network utility. Reading another thread which recommended disabling Reputation Services (under Cloud Services), I tried this and the Avast start up improved dramatically.

Thank you for your reply. I took your advise and tried that setting, but unfortunately it didn’t make any difference.

It was worth the try though. Thanks.
