One more thing is required after unchecking that box. You then are asked to choose an account that will sign in automatically so just choose the default one you set up with whatever user name you chose.

Windows 8.1 is Just Around the Corner, Are You Ready to Switch?
A free upgrade for those already running Windows 8.
The much talked about “Start Button” isn’t really a start button.
I still recommend that if you have to have the Start Button, you
download Classic Shell.

I’m not sure I’ll bother with getting 8.1. Some of the changes I don’t like but then it does have IE 11 so maybe.

There is a lot bug fixes so if you already have Win8 you would be silly not to update imo.

If you already have Windows 8 on your system, you loose NOTHING except the time to do the update.
You do gain a lot of fixes that make the use of Windows 8X easier.
Your programs and settings are all retained when you upgrade.

Im downloading it right now.
But with an 100 MBits Wirless Connection this will take some hours…

Even with a fairly fast download speed it takes time and, the actual conversion takes quite a long time.
I know I’ve already done it on 3 other computers. Not having used the last computer that I’m now updating and
changing over to Win 8.1 since Aug 2013 makes this even more time consuming.

Finally installed
3.6Gb download plus an hour to install so about 2 - 2 1/2 hours all up for me.
Annoying how all the pre-installed apps that I had removed were re-installed and the Protected Mode was re-enabled I discovered once I opened the browser for the first time and got the warning that several add-ons were incompatible such as Avast’s Browser Protection
Where are you getting the Update?
I ran Windows Update (I thought it was to come up) but shows No Updates. ???
I had to get it through windows store using the metro screen
Thanks.
Did I miss read the information.
Was it not to show up in the Updates process. No matter.
Edit
Maybe it is being staged in windows updates to reduce server load … Or just MS trying to force you to use metro

Just for your information, if you’re using Windows 8.0 Enterprise addition,
it can NOT be updated through the Windows store.
No normal Windows 8 64-Bit.
I have to update graphic drivers and the Windows Updates and Apps at the moment.
This will take some time.
I started an update some hours ago but my computer began to crash again, which i had some
weeks ago, Chrome was causing it.
Now after the reset it is running better, and its not crashing.
To update Windows on a crashing system would not help me.

Successfully updated to 8.1. Everything is fine. Only one small leftover from old SkyDrive app which cannot be removed in any way, and can’t be repaired by Windows Store too. As SkyDrive was integrated info 8.1 something went not right with SkyDrive app from 8. I hope MS will fix it in the future.

And Internet Explorer 11 does not like avast plugins, it says they are incompatible (LT: Nesuderinama), yet they are loaded fine when I run IE11 as administrator ;D
