hi,
please list full path of the infected file
use another Scanner, e.g Trend or KAV (see-below; pause avast resident shield before scanning)) to get a more specifiic virusname and look that up in their respective VirusInfo-Databases,
especially check if any manual system tweaks are needed before or after deleting the file
just move it to the chest with avast; you might have to kill the respective process first, or start Win in SafeMode (F8-Boot)
P.S.: Use the board search above for winstart001
→ e.g.: http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?p=1630
might be also be removed by spybot or Ad-aware; for Download see above Link
Hi rojak.
Hope this helps.
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default2.asp?m=q&virus=winstart001%2Eexe&alt=winstart001%2Eexe
It’s adware/spyware listed in Spybot s&d
Norton’s 2004 lists it as adware
If you can’t get to the site above, it’s not a system file so should be fine to delete.
Cheers

thanks. It was in /windows/system folder. I’ve deleted it since it is spyware and doesn’t do anything – i hope.
