WinXP No Longer Updating Virus Definitions

I have an old WinXP machine serving as an EPOS in my pub that I am working on replacing with a newer W10 one, so just need virus cover for a little longer!

Noticed that the previously fully functioning Avast Free AV (18.8.2356) stopped updating virus definitions a couple of weeks ago. On investigation found that the license key had run out so only option I could find was to uninstall & reinstall via offline installer as online one just reported problems connecting to Avast servers.

Reinstalled version still refused to update and on checking, seemed to have picked up same license key. Uninstalled again, tried avastclear but no valid on WinXP 32bit, so rebooted and installed again. Avast now showing without any license (as per no license required message on website) but still fails to update. Manual update results in host unreachable message straight after ‘DNS resolving’.

Internet connectivity is fine.

Has support for WinXP finally come to an end?

Virus Definition updates are still available for Windows XP, and it works.
(You might want to check your internet settings (DNS settings).
