WinXP Security Centre Stopped Recognising Avast

I am using Win XPSP2 Opera 8.5 and latest Avast Home version.

The Windows Security Centre has stopped recognising Avast, in that it has posted the red shield alert with white cross in the system tray. I don’t know why.

It was working OK prior. I have no reason to believe that Avast is not working.

Can anyone shed any light on how to correct this feature please.
Thanks

Terry

Can you check the date and time of your computer?
Answers for XP Security Center not detecting anti-virus program could be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883792 (the link was kindly found by David…).

Thanks for your reply, I was unclear as to why you asked me to check the date & time of my computer (which by the way is OK).

Also the Microsoft article sheds no light on my circumstances. Avast appears to be working, but the program recognition is not, and it used to?

Any other suggestions please?

Thanks

Terry

Some viruses change date and time (specially the month and year) putting your computer in the ‘future’.
Then, the antivirus version is show as NOT updated and, sometimes, the antivirus is not recognized.
Did you have any other antivirus in your computer in the past? NAV, Kaspersky?

Thanks again for your reply.

I had Kerio Firewall on my PC for some time but recently changed it, say 2 months ago, to Look N Stop. The reason for this was that Kerio will terminate the free version at the end of 2005. In addition, Look n stop is getting good reviews.

That said, Windows security centre was recognising it for this period.

Kerio may have had a bit of a reprieve as it is being bought by Sunbelt Systems (or Software?) the makers of CounterSpy one of the leading anti-spyware products. There is mention about it on these forums, but you would probably be better getting the full info at the Kerio site.
