winzip -- download helper

HELP:
Both winzip and my download helper have provisions for a virus scan line command.
What program do I use and what paramater if any???
Thanks

use ashquick.exe with no extra parameters

I get the following error message:
The system can not find the path specified.

The path that i have entere is as followes:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe
Since this is a direct copy and past from the original folder, I know that it’s correct ???
Thanks in advance for any help…

This was brought up previously in other threads – the error message refers to an oddball characteristic of Ashquick. AQ requires the full path for the file you want to scan, even if it happens to be in the same folder as AQ itself.

I’m not clear how you would pass that info on to the downloader – but surely there must be some kind of command-line “convention” for doing that.

For Winzip, I found that using the path C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe and putting %d in the Parameters box worked. (Don’t ask me what %d does or means but it seems to work ok

)

Hope this helps

Amazing ---- No error messages BUT is it really working?
How do i know? I must be sure or it’s not going to meet my requirements. ::slight_smile:

I’ve got the whole answer and YES it works!!!

Use the following for the path and program:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe
Add the following parameters:
%d
AND in Winzip uncheck the box for Run Minamized.

Thanks for everyones help :-*

From the WinZip Helpfile (to me it seems like “*.'” is the right choice since %d will not add . to the path, or does avast add that itself):

Special character sequences for the Parameters field are:

. indicates where WinZip should substitute the drive, folder, and the . characters for the files that are to be scanned. For example, “c:\temp\dir*.*”.

%d indicates where WinZip should substitute the drive and folder of the files that are to be scanned. Note that the wild card characters . are NOT included when you use %d.

%f indicates where WinZip should substitute the name of a temporary “report file”. Report files should ONLY be used when running DOS virus scanners.

%wscan a special parameter required for McAfee’s WSCAN program.

Here are some of the settings that can be used with Avast! 4.x

Avast! 4 Command Line Rules For various Programs
Program Info if installed indefault Folder:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe
PocoZip,PowerArchiver2003 and StarDownloader:
No Parameters
WinArc: “%f”
WinZip: %d

It would be nice if the same command and paramaters or, lack there of could be used in all programs but, this works for me.

You can consider this subject closed for now. Thanks for all your help.

%d don’t work here ashQuick opens and closes again without any message
(and I tested on a ZIP file with a virus that is found if I extract the ZIp-file

As always, Erik, why did you post twice the same?
