Wireless Printer Blocked By Avast Free Antivirus (NO FIREWALL)

Hey guys

OS: Windows 10
AV: Avast Free Anti Virus
Firewall: Zone Alarm Firewall
Printer: Brother MFC j200 wireless

Printer works fine with Avast disabled
Printer works fine with zone alarm enabled
I do not have Avast firewall

The printer will only appear as online if I disable “Web Shield” in Avast.

I can not find anything in web shield settings that lets me use the printer.

Can anyone help?

  • Which version of Avast Free…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Heya,

Virus Definitions Version: 180815-8

- OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)

OS: Win 10 Home, 64 bit
Version: 1803
OS Build: 17134.228

- Other security related software installed…?

Zone Alarm Free Firewall: 15.3.060.17669
No other security software (All windows crap disabled)
Zone Alarm does not affect the access to the printer

- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

None, I have always used Avast Free, on all my laptops after chrome it’s the next thing that gets installed.

Anything else, thanks for any help.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of Zone Alarm…!!
https://support.avast.com/article/11/

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Heya,

Removed Zone Alarm
Used uninstall utility for Avast (safe mode)
Reboot (printer connected)
Re-install avast (printer offline)

Follow instructions: https://support.avast.com/article/33/ Post your File-ID here afterwards.

Also done.

Do I need to open a support ticket, it wasn’t clear about that part, or is it automatic?

Nope, but we need your File-ID, so the devs can find it.

Could not find the file ID in the folder it create in appData, I kinda missed that part in your reply, my bad
