Wishlist: Two new Online service by Avast

I am waiting for a long time, when Avast will develop online service like

  1. Webform to submit malwares by non Avast users. The email service is no good because gmail blocks exe file upload even in password protected archives.
  2. Webform to check malicious webpages. Not Plugins like WOT. McAfee, Norton but a service where one can check about malicious ips and websites by entering it’s address. WOT, McAfee SA, Norton SW, F-Secure, browser defender, web security guard all provides such service.
    http://safeweb.norton.com/
    http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard
    http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/
    http://browsingprotection.f-secure.com/swp/

A sticky thread exists for this…it is called, ironically, the “wishlist”

I know but that’s for the Avast Product. I am not talking about that rather a separate service.

The Whishlist is meant for: New features for the next major avast! release [WISHLIST]
Nevertheless I doubt Alwil will introduce such or similar online services…!!!

Why not?
When avast 5 was out didn’t avast changed its website ^^?

Hi shiw,

There is difference in changing the website and introducing new services. It requires more work. More server power etc… Since there are already many sites where in we can analyse the malicious files, I dont think we need one by avast.

It’s only a ‘wild’ guess…!!
If they introduce such features, I wouldn’t be against it at all…

+1

YOU ARE WRONG,gmail send protected encrypted archives with any thing in side them

I didn’t talked about sites to analyse files online. I was talking about a webform to submit suspected malwares other than through email.
and a webform where we can confirm if a particular website/ip is blacklisted by Avast or not.

Please try to upload one for me. See here, when I was trying to upload a password protected zip file.

+1 on the web submission form. Sending malware samples via email is troublesome at best w/ most email providers out there.

@sg09,

That was for not malicious files but for checking malicious webpages . Wanted to type something else, typed something else. ;D

nmb

Good it is troublesome or impossible, means the service provider is scanning mails for malware…!!!

As sh said, you can encrypt the archives and send it.

nmb

Please see my reply no #8. Gmail doesn’t allow even password protected executables.

There is difference in just “password protecting” and “password protecting and encrypting.” So dig in 7-zip, you will come to know.

nmb

Well, actually not really… Many mailservers will simply drop/strip anything password-protected since they can’t scan it. Meaning, avast won’t get the sample.

I went through this link
http://www.medicalnerds.com/how-to-encrypt-zip-files-securely-using-7zip/
and tried to encrypt, password protect and then upload.
But uploading failed again.

Well, what I meant was it’s good for the user, if he has a SP that takes care of malware.
Certainly it’s not good for the samples beeing missed by avast, as they never get them.
Btw, samples can also be sent to alwil using the option in the chest…

No, you need to select encrypt file names. I have sent files before to avast successfully and also to friends.

nmb

Strange… Gmail never allowed me to send exe files archived into zip… I use 7zip format instead.
