Won't download definitions update

I just finished installing Avast 5.0.594 - sort of. It didn’t run to completion and seemed to lock up the computer during the “finishing” phase. It runs and indicates all shields are active, but it won’t update the database. It brings up the progress bar but the indication never moves.
Any thoughts on this?

Maybe this will solve your issue.

  1. Settings
  2. Updates
  3. Proxy setting
  4. Direct connect no proxy
