Wootbot.gen

Hey,

Just out of curiosity I ran Kaspersky’s eScan on a computer that has been running Avast for a long time.

It detected 3 viruses never reported by Avast: W32.Wootboot.gen, and two versions of ??Spybot-??? - where ? means a number. Unfortunately I deleted the log when I formatted the HD later that day, so I’m not sure what the exact name was.

Why did eScan find these - and not Avast?

Could be a lot of reasons:

  1. The sensitivity of the scanning (or Standard Shield provider) you’ve chosen.
  2. The infection came after you uninstalled avast (?).
  3. False positives from eScan.
  4. Your avast installation was not updated…

1: Avast sensitivity is set to high
2: Avast was never uninstalled
3: I wouldn’t know
4: Avast is always updated

Maybe because eScan uses Kaspersky engine & signatures file, which BTW has a 99,86% detection rate? :-\
