Unbelievable… simple unbelievable what kind of people live out there… : He needs that page even though he is 110% sure there is a virus/trojan spreading from that same source… I am 400% sure that page is nothing else, but some porn page or even more possible, one of those crack/serials/warez pages… some people will never learn… never…
And worst of all, once he picks up some nasty virus, he will come here, asking and crying… and after people try to help him, he will start to yell at everybody in this forum because “he listened to his idiotic friend” and switched from Norton to avast! and all he has now is nothing but troubles and problems ??? ??? ???
Well, once my friend told me this story about a guy who did get infected just the day after he bought the PC. I can’t remember which virus & spyware he cought but that’s not main part of the story, listen to this:
Because the PC started diplaying some errors all the time he immediatelly returned it to the store to complaint about it. He told that it was not working properly and that he doesn’t know what could have caused it (of course he didn’t mentioned his little picnic accross the pleasures of adult internet content
When the girl who worked in that service store turned on the machine there was some porn pages displyaing everywhere.
She explained to him what’s going on and that he could consider some AV product when he surfes similar Internet content. Just imagine the embarrassment that that man was going trough listening to those two service girls and the rest of the customers laughing.
I belive he lives in the the mountains now remembering the life he lived, if he didn’t jumped from some bridge instead.

Yes it’s unbelievable what some people will do. I am not surprised though. Some of my ISP customers call in for help due to an infection and basically tell me the same thing when I try to explain things to them.
I have a computer on the bench I am upgrading now. The young man says he doesn’t need any security because all he is going to do is online gaming and music downloads. I tried explaning the dangers but he is sure he’s right. I’m loading it with good security (including Avast! of course) anyway. If he chooses to ignore it that’s up to him.

Some interesting tales off blind stupidity. I must say all safe surfing tips I give fall on deaf ears these days. I recommended Avast! as a good AV @ a site I wont mention, ( Reputable ) and was told it’s S**T. :o Reasoning: Only very large companies can afford to develop good AV software because of the research costs involved . What can you say, it’s fruitless

Your thesis may be true. I like to run HiJackThis after setting up a New Comp. and keep a close eye on all system file changes from day one.Plus "Optimize" it's running services... There's only so much anyone can do.
It seems for every "idiot" on line there's a proportionate amount of Bad people waiting to jump them.

Polonus: I just formatted and installed an OEM version of Windows 98SE on a friends comp. I installed Ad-AwareSE from a CD and ran it first thing. I found 8 Alexa Objects and 6 tracking cookies. This proves your hypothesis I believe.
And if you did it well, you installed the Win98 SE Unofficial Service Pack 2. With this your 98 SE is up to date, has all the patches unto now, only you have to install IE and Outlook separately. I had this unofficial Win 98 SE version, and it never caused any hick-up so far. Well the security programs you have to add yourself, a good AV, AT, AS (Ad-aware, Spybot S&D & SpywareBlaster, and a good free software firewall.
With a bit of insight people could enjoy so much more.

Now that you have mentioned, what is the difference between the applications which require U3 standard and portable applications?
I mean you can use portable apps like Flock on your USB stick even if it’s not U3 compatibile, but you cannot use U3 apps on USB that does not support U3 standard. I’m still puzzling over this one. Maybe you’re the most approprite person to answer this because you’re using this techology.
The USB 3 standard is not here yet, going to be shipped this summer. USB 2.0 and this depending on the drivers you have is 40 times faster then USB 1.0 was. The unofficial Win 98 SE Service Pack 2 with the drivers support USB 2.0.
USB is stable, there is no movable parts, it will last longer then CD and certainly longer then rewritable CD, which do not last longer than a year or so. Then there is the safety aspect. If you use this browser inside the mem stick you leave no traces on the computer. Running AV from a mem stick, or a full Linux distro has its advantages, you can imagine. A security apps that can run from a mem stick and can be downloaded unto it is Lavasofts’ Ad-Aware, runs without any problem. Crazy Browser is ported for the mem stick too, and Avant Browser also.
Then soon mem sticks or flash drives or portable partitions will carry up to 4 GB.
