Worm Problem

I recently reformatted my comp due to a worm problem
My computer’s internet used to keep disconnecting when i was on msn ( both msn and internet disconnects at the same time )
after reformatting the internet now works fine when I’m on msn
i was wondering if guys knew the name of a worm causing the problem and any ways of removing this worm xD
Thanks Heaps !

Many worms can cause this. Since you formatted there is no way to tell which one it was.
To prevent it as much as possible have a look at the malware removal section at: http://mrspock.dsmirc.co.uk

Hi Victor123,

The question about the specific worm is now irrelevant. Better move to two other things.
One, why you had this infection? Well, because your machine did not have the latest Microsoft patches for either Win 2xxx or Win XP.
Two, what to do if this problem is at hand?
If the system starts disconnecting. Do the following:

  1. Disconnect from the Internet,
  2. Restart,
  3. As soon as possible during the boot process, click on Start Run, and enter to open the command line interface.
  4. At the DOS prompt there, enter and type shutdown -/ and press Enter,
If the control panel opens to make the delays longer:
  5. Click Add, enter name, click OK,
  6. Modify the warning message sequence for standard of 20 (=seconds) to any large number like 9999 (later you can set the sequence back to anything you desire).
In windows XP at 4 you can type: “shutdown -a” (without quotation marks) and do this during 60 seconds before reboot
    occur.

Then have stinger.exe latest version downloaded on your comp to find and destroy all the versions of these worms.

Worms that show this behaviour are W32.blaster, W32 Opaserv, Sasser worm and a lot of others.

Keep your systems updated and patched, and your AV solution with the latest definitions.

Give yourself a fighting chance and don’t give viruses administrator privileges to reap havoc, see DropMyRights link in my signature.

Thanks for all the good tips xD
Should i be changing to Avast Home? atm im using Nod32

Thanks again !

You won’t regret 8)
Welcome to avast! forums

I know my dad certainly didn’t regret switching from Nod32 to avast!, hmmm it was a “small” matter of over 200!!! different viruses, trojans etc.(he got it all trough email) that NOD was unable to delete but when we put avast! on the pc it offered to make a Boot-Time scan and cleaned the baddies… he’s been a happy avast! user ever since(and the next day i bought avast! pro) 8)

Cheers
