Worm/Trojan variants still not detected

I’ve sent 4 e-mails to virus[at]avast.com, each with a different variant of trojan/worm in a password protected zip file, and Avast still isn’t able to detect them - I’m currently using VPS version 000777-2.

#1: Detected as: WORM/Ntech.H (AntiVir), Downloader.Agent (AVG). [E-mail Sent Wed, 19 Sep 2007]
#2: Detected as: WORM/Ntech.I (AntiVir), Downloader.Agent (AVG). [E-mail Sent Fri, 21 Sep 2007]
#3: Detected as: WORM/Ntech.J (AntiVir), Downloader.Banload.FCP (AVG). [E-mail Sent Thu, 27 Sep 2007]
#4: Detected as: WORM/Ntech.L (AntiVir). [E-mail Sent Fri, 28 Sep 2007]

Is it normal for Avast to take forever to be able to detect new threats?

John.

Unfortunately you are fighting with over 4000 emails received each day at that email address for attention and prioritisation. Personally I add any sample to the User Files section of the chest and send them from there as files sent from the chest are filtered upon receipt. That might just give a little higher priority.

There are moves afoot to introduce a new submission method which is hoped to improve this situation, but no date has been given for its introduction.

It shouldn’t… but it could happen.
Thanks John for helping to improve avast detection.
Hope this post works like a ‘bump’ to virus analysts…
