WORM

I’ve got a worm on my ipod and everything I delete or move to chest it just renames itself and comes back. Its like Avast isnt doing anything to help other than poppin up every few seconds to tell me that the worm is still there. I’ve already restored my ipod and i had to do so by pausing my avast. So my question is, how do i stop avast from scanning my drives? Like when I use a flash drive or plug in my ipod, could I stop it from scanning them cause i’m starting to believe its a false alarm.

HI MissJewel,

I think that we should at least try to determine if it’s a false positive before disabling any component of avast. Can you give more details concerning the warnings you get from avast (i.e. name of the worm)

Can you please post your warning log here?

C:/Program Files/Alwil Software/Avast4/DATA/log/warning.txt

Sorry for the wait. I didnt an entire system scan with my ipod plugged in and still nothing. Its still there on my ipod.

File Name:: H:\autorun.inf
Malware Name: BV:AutoRun-G [Wrm]
Malware Type:: Virus/Worm

no one?

Sorry.

Ok once you have the file you can try to upload it to:
http://www.virustotal.com/

This website runs the file through a battery of Anti-virus programs. Avast might sound off some alarms. If that happens you can add the file to the exclusion list by:

-Right clicking on the little spinning ball with an a on it in the bottom right corner of the screen.
-Left clicking on Program settings.
-Selecting Exclusions from the list on the left
-And clicking on the Browse button that will open a window from which you can select the file for which you are making the exception. (so autorun.inf)

Once that is done paste the link to the results in your next post.

-= Autorun…?

-= Based on what I know… Its not a virus if your computer enables autoplay feature…

I went along with this

and it really worked. Thanks for all the help though.

Let your USB drive plugged and run Autorun Eater or Flash Disinfector, allowing them to clean up all drives. Reboot the computer. They would create hidden folders named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. This folder protect your drives from future infection.

So i think she solved the problem. Out of curiosity… can we use Flash disinfector even if There was no malware detection on the USB

Yes, it could be used to prevent infections.

Hi tech… I wanted to report that the link you provided to Flash Disinfector is dead. In a search to find a new link and report back with it I found this Thread:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=42967.0

So, should I avoid the tool then given that it has the potential for error. I am not too keen on dealing with the register… at least not until I get some free time.

Strange, I’ve tested 5 minutes ago and it’s working…

I press it and a tab opens taking me to:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/Flash_Disinfector.exe

But all I See on the page is:
“Page not found”

And also can you clarify if I should avoid the tool given what was written at:

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=42967.0

Thanks

  1. alternative location Flash Drive Disinfector
Information and Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs from >here< and save it to your desktop.
[*] Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.[*] The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.[*] Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.[*] Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don’t delete this folder…it will help protect your drives from future infection.

  2. If you read the avast forums topic fully there is no problem with flash disinfector.

got it, Thank you for the clarification David.

I re-read the post and got it in the end.
