I was just curious to now if this computer has a virus on it just because it is really slow booting up so I would like to get it checked for a virus and to make sure it is clean and has no malware on it currently. I will post the logs very shortly below.

Thanks very much avast

Windows 8

Also do a run With CCleaner before you run The logs tool…

HI here are the otl log and adwcleaner log below:

thanks

Hi here is the otl

No apparent malware, it may be worth running xbootmngr

Download the SDK web installer from here
Run the installer and select the following:

Leave the location to default

Windows Performance Toolkit

You must reboot on completion of the install

After reboot set aside about 30 minutes when you will not need the computer

When ready start an elevated command prompt :

Go Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator

Then copy and paste the following command into the black box :

xbootmgr -trace boot -prepSystem -verboseReadyBoot

Now your PC will be restarted 6 times. With a two minute pause before the tool runs after the desktop loads
After the second reboot the MS defragmentation program is running and is placing the files into an optimized layout, so that Windows will boot up faster
The last Reboots are training of readyBoot. After the training is finished, you’ll notice a huge improvement in startup.

Readyboot

The logical prefetching described above is used when the system has less than 512MB of memory. If the system has 700MB or more then an in-RAM cache is used to further optimize the boot process (it’s not clear from the book whether or not this ReadyBoot cache completely replaces the logical prefetching approach or just builds on it, my assumption is that both work together). After each boot the system generates a boot caching plan for the next boot using file trace information from up to the five previous boots which contains details of which files were accessed and where on the disk they were located. These traces are stored as .fx files in the

HI I am not clear on something can some one explain to me in greater detail what does xbootmngr do for my Windows 8 desktop. Will xbootmngr delete certain applications from the computer I have a program Turbo tax 2012 on this computer so I do not want to delete any applications or programs from this computer.

What I would like to now how does this program work exactly.

Thanks

I will also put the adwcleaner log on this this sometime soon

thanks

Nope all it does is reboot the computer. track which files are run during the boot and in what sequence. It then defragments the drive and moves all the boot files to a contiginous space. Then runs a further 4 boots to confirm that the location is good and all necessary parts are loaded as soon as possible. Nothing is removed, deleted or jumped on

HI Essexboy thanks so much for explaining to me what xbootmngr does on my Windows 8 laptop.

Thanks again Essexboy

hi here is the adwcleaner log below. I would like someone to help me if their is anything to remove in the adwcleaner log I do not want to mess anything up because this is my new windows 8 laptop.

thanks.

HI I was wanting to ask another question if I may about xbootmngr when xbootmngr is finished doing its performance stuff can I delete xbootmngr from this computer. Will the changes keep if I uninstall xbootmngr from this computer.

Thanks

You can clear the stuff with adwcleaner

All changes are made to the way windows boots and optimises files ( notice defrag is now called defrag and optimise files) and will be continued until you alter low level drivers or services

I keep it on my system as the space taken up is minimal

thanks Essexboy for your time and advice as always.
