WOW, didn't know this board was here, SO GLAD NOW,

hello all, hope you have a good relaxing weekend,WOW, after 4-5 yrs using AVAST A.V. never knew this board was here, until today.

have a “curious” Question, (have many about Avast, but will ask separate.NO ALL WORKING GREAT)

useing winxp-home edition-,compaq computer persario desktop purchased last year, with top of the line dsl connection.Avast 4.7

Situation when i went to a local news media site,(abc) i get a "“WARNING a virus has been detected
so i shut down the site, clean cookies, temp files ect shut don modem, reboot, ect and computer all ok,
Question have always wondered,

WHEN avast announces this warning, does avast
(A) automaticly disconnect/stop anything from being d/l onto my computer/
even though the site contiues to open to read news.

some of the other topic/ questions will be asking later,(after looking at the different forums)
WHAT plug in’s or add on’s
should I try try "“Beta” versions of Advast, ect?

Thank you again for your help, Clato

the ONLY way for me to learn is to ask questions,
I ask questions to learn,

If it is the avast web shield detecting it, the only option given is abort connection, this stops the detected malware from being downloaded, you may see some elements previously downloaded to your browser cache ‘before’ avast found what it did.

What was the full information about the detection (malware name, location, etc.) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.

There currently isn’t a beta version running when there is it is normally notified in the forums for those who are happy running beta software on a non-test system and camn deal with the possibly problems that may occur with beta software. It isn’t something to be entered int lightly.

As David said, if Webshield is working, it will block any infected connection even before the file is saved in your computer.

Right now there isn’t an open beta program. You must be tunned on forums.

Welcome to avast forums.

Thank you, for the welcome & ifo, don’t know HOW yet,(still learning about this site) to copy paste here, bit under warning its shows 4 of the SAME thing
AaVM-scanning warning:x_Aa CheckFile Dir
then last item is
(I’ve heard of this virus or worm)
sign of “VBS:loveletter” has been found in C:\

thank you for the help/ information Clato

I would say ignore the first four
Well if it were the web shield the alert would have looked like the image below (?) and the location would have been a URL and not your HDD.

Yet you are giving a hard disk location c:, what was the file name ?

thank you david,
that was all avast log would show, it didn’t show anything but C:,so should I run a FULL virus scan? done regularly anyway.
my maint log
8-24-2007 SAFE MODE VIRUS SCAN
76,962 Files,4726 Folders
9-06-07 CLEAN & DEFRAG
9/11/07 SAFE MODE VIRUS Scan
68007 FILES,4622 FOLDERS
9-17-07 Clean & Defrag-safe mode

You can expand the columns in the log viewer the same as you can most windows application ltat use columns, you can also export the contents of the warning section and copy and paste the relevant bit of it.

I just noticed that my image was missing from my last post, I have added it again, is that what the alert looked like ?

wow, PLZ how do i expand it so will know next time, I put mouse on it,but still didn’t see full file?
thank you again SIR, clato

Did you expand the image I posted, place your cursor at the divider between the column headings and the cursor should change to the double arrow marked by my red pointer, when you see that left click and hold whilst you drag the cursor to the right.

Welcome to the forums.

wow thank you so much for the information,[img][color=red]I apptrciate it, “Thank you”, clato
